Error

Admin1: Mathematics and experiment are the two pillars upon which the great edifice of Alphysics has been built. What is the third pillar?

Doctor Gravytee: Absurd.

A1: Absurd?

Dr. G: Yes. Absurd is the third pillar of Alphysics. It is very easy to understand this. Doctors of Alphysics have universal authority to define what science is. Mathematics and experiment are parts of science. Therefore, Doctors of Alphysics have absolute authority over both math and experiment.

A1: How can a person have authority over mathematics?

Dr. G: The rules of mathematics are defined by Doctors of Alphysics. In mathematics there are no errors.

A1: Of course there are errors in mathematics. If you try to divide one by zero you get an error message: "ERROR! DIVISION BY ZERO."

Dr. G: For a Doctor of Alphysics such an error message is as serious as an error message given by Windows. Doctor simply hits the cancel key and defines the error as the new rule. He may even be given the Nobel Prize for such a discovery.

A1: I see. Division by zero used to be an error but it is no longer an error. Doctors defined it to be a singularity.

Dr. G: You got it.
